Dr. Jones goes to Disneyland
May 12th, 2008 at 11:04 am by Aaron H in Expanded Universe, Disneyland, Disney, Marketing, GeneralYou’ve just relaunched a franchise, what are you going to do next? Go to Disneyland of course. Further details about the upcoming Disneyland Indiana Jones activities that will be found in Adventureland (near the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, I’m sure) have emerged:
Indiana Jones Summer of Hidden Mysteries
With Steven Spielberg’s fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise hitting theaters next week with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Disneyland has announced a number of new Adventureland activities promoting the fedora-hatted archeologist, including:
- Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Stone Tiger – Young guests become archeologists as they solve clues, complete tasks and decipher codes, Indy style which leads to a hidden treasure. A friendly and helpful female archeologist, who may not be as innocent as she seems, will host the experience. However, if her intentions are found to be villainous, Indy will surely be on the scene to aid the youngsters.
- Indiana Jones Adventure Map – Guests will be able to pick up a special map near the entrance to Aladdin’s Oasis, leading them to a series of clues that, when deciphered, reveal a secret message. This message can be used online to obtain an exclusive download of desktop wallpaper, screen saver or other collateral. The map also has a section that highlights activities in the queue of Indiana Jones Adventure and the Jungle Cruise.
- Adventure Photo Location – Guests can step into an action-packed sequence inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark. They can also pick up their Indiana Jones Adventure Maps at this location.
- Indiana Jones Adventure Queue – Using their Indiana Jones Adventure Maps as a guide, guests will discover an exciting array of secrets hidden away in the queue of the attraction.
- Jungle Cruise – The Jungle Cruise Skipper spiel has been enhanced to reflect the idea that Indy has been traveling through the jungle on his latest expedition – and we will signs of his exploits. Moreover, Guests with a keen eye can look for hidden icons from the first three films, which are described in their Adventure Maps.
- Indiana Jones in Adventureland! – Indiana Jones and a male enemy agent run into each other in the street and pursue one another through Adventureland – pushing through the crowd, popping up here, there and everywhere! Seems one of them has a map to the Temple of the Forbidden Eye that the other wants. This results in a series of fun-filled, dramatic staged “moments” that include fights on balconies, pursuits and daring escapes!
Looks like a lot of fun! If you are in the park and get some pictures or video of these thrilling adventures, please pass them along!

News Roundup - Music, Video & a Rumor Mill!
May 8th, 2008 at 12:41 pm by Aaron H in Spoilers, Trailers, Indiana Jones V?, Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Young Indy, Future of Indiana Jones, IndianaJones.com, Rumor MillI meant to post this yesterday, but didn’t find the time. Sorry. A.H.
Music
Amazon.com has posted 30-second clips from each track of the KotCS movie soundtrack. Warning, there are spoilers in the track titles! I must say its great to hear John Williams scoring Indy again!
Video
IndianaJones.com has posted 7…that’s right 7…new TV spots showing new scenes! Also they have posted a new behind-the-scenes featurette called “Indy Arrives!”
Rumor Mill
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. KotCS is not the last “Indy” film…at least not if Paramount has its way. Word is circulating around that if the opening for Kingdom is as guilded as it looks like it is going to be, the Paramount Execs want to exercise Shia’s three movie option that he signed on to.
The only thing that could stop this process would be a change of mind by both Lucas and Spielberg. Both of the movie makers wanted to revisit their sucessful franchise for more than one film…however, Harrison hasn’t been so keen on the idea. Yet, recent interviews with Ford hint that if successful, he may be willing to do more.
At the very least, the character of Mutt has been setup in this film to take over the helm from our intrepid Archaeologist. An idea that the suits at Paramount may captialize upon with or without Ford (and if the rumors are correct, even without L & S).
You see, despite the critical and commercial failure of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Paramount believes that what current movie-going audiences is younger action heros and they think that Indiana Jones, Jr. (my title) would fit the bill. A spin-off franchise that would follow the adventures of Indy’s swashbuckling son, but avoid the “edutainment” pitfalls of the YIJC. The best part of it is, or so the Paramount heads think, if the Big Three decide to do another Indy movie, they could weave the two francises’ stories together.
So is there a chance we’ll be seeing more of Mutt on the big screen before we see Indy? It would seem that is what the rumors are hinting at.
That wraps it up for today. Now go outside and have an adventure!

Second, the official website plot synopsis. If you are wanting to remain 100% spoiler free, DO NOT read the following:
The newest Indiana Jones adventure begins in the desert Southwest in 1957 - the height of the Cold War. Indy and his sidekick Mac (Ray Winstone) have barely escaped a close scrape with nefarious Soviet agent on a remote airfield.
Now, Professor Jones has returned home to Marshall College - only to find things have gone from bad to worse. His close friend and dean of the college (Jim Broadbent) explains that Indy’s recent activities have made him the object of suspicion, and that the government has put pressure on the university to fire him. On his way out of town, Indiana meets rebellious young Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), who carries both a grudge and a proposition for the adventurous archaeologist: If he’ll help Mutt on a mission with deeply personal stakes, Indy could very well make one of the most spectacular archaeological finds in history - the Crystal Skull of Akator, a legendary object of fascination, superstition and fear.
But as Indy and Mutt set out for the most remote corners of Peru - a land of ancient tombs, forgotten explorers and a rumored city of gold - they quickly realize they are not alone in their search. The Soviet agents are also hot on the trail of the Crystal Skull. Chief among them is icy cold, devastatingly beautiful Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett), whose elite military unit is scouring the globe for the eerie Crystal Skull, which they believe can help the Soviets dominate the world… if they can unlock its secrets.
Indy and Mutt must find a way to evade the ruthless Soviets, follow an impenetrable trail of mystery, grapple with enemies and friends of questionable motives, and , above all, stop the powerful Crystal Skull from falling into the deadliest of hands.
Wow, seems to be a thrill-a-moment! Less than 18 days left until wide-release!

Trailer #2 Tomorrow
April 30th, 2008 at 01:06 pm by Aaron H in Trailers, Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, MarketingWhile I can’t get any official confirmation from Paramount, I’ve decided to go ahead and post this as non-rumor. At the “sneak peek” of Iron Man tomorrow (at the very least the 8:00 showings, but most likely all of them) Trailer #2 for KotCS will be shown.
I’ve gotten this from several sources and its been confirmed by others. This wasn’t unexepected by any means, but interesting that Paramount has remained mum on the topic. It makes perfect sense, since Paramount is behind both films.
Edit: No word yet on when the trailer will be released online, I would suspect tomorrow or Friday to prevent piracy of the trailer.
